lyrics
i know a rose is a rose is a rose
but it preys on my mind all the time
yep
we used to lay down on astro
and you would take the piss out of me
while we stared at the sky
cause we’ve both spun the pride enough
to mistake a brother’s sighs for no
you win at everything I won’t
get gold, in a robe, yeah climb the throne,
i never climb anything but
cold spires growin in my mind
don’t mind me I hold it inside
i sugar coat
but I know
that you know
that I’ve got praise on my mind all the time
if I could unpack my stature
then maybe you’d see the Usain in me
bolted tight to your side
cause we’ve both been disguised enough
yep
to mistake each other’s eyes for moats
you get everything that I wanttttt
get gold, and a robe, climb the throne,
i never climb anything but
cold spires growin in my mind
don’t mind me
cause you don’t hurt me in my memory
no no no you’re not so much my enemy
more of a frenemy
don’t mind me I’ll hold it inside
bolted right there to your side
i love you man until I die
Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
